AN emergency meeting has been called to let people voice their concerns about the lack of grit in Pendle.

Councillors hope residents will turn out in their droves to tell them about problems caused by icy roads and pavements.

Residents are being urged to attend the next Lancashire Local Pendle committee meeting to protest over the lack of provisions.

Labour county councillors, Mohammed Iqbal and George Adam said a number of people have reported breaking limbs after slipping on ice over the last few weeks.

Coun Iqbal said: “I would urge as many residents to attend and tell the Tory councillors how they have let the people down.

“I believe that the only way to solve this problem is for gritting to be controlled by Pendle Council – at least we can work together to stop the broken limbs.

“I was at a funeral at Nelson cemetery earlier this week and there wasn’t a sign of the road being gritted.

“The staff are doing a sterling job but can only do so much with the resources given to them by the Tory leadership.”

The Lancashire Local Pendle meeting will take place at Brierfield Community Centre on Wednesday at 6.30pm.
