NEW changing rooms at Earby Recreation Ground have been labelled ‘sub-standard’ by dissatisfied councillors.

The facilities were the last to be upgraded by Pendle Council’s parks and recreation team last year.

But members of Earby Parish Council said the building was inferior to others in the area.

They are now urging town hall chiefs to make some much-needed additions and improvements to the facility.

According to Coun Morris Horsfield, the building, used by hundreds of children and adults, did not have a plug socket for a kettle.

One has now been installed, but Coun Horsfield said the facility was still not ‘fit for purpose’.

He said it should have had a separate room with a seating area for members of junior and adult sports teams.

Speaking at a recent meeting, Coun Vic March described the changing rooms as ‘sub-standard’.

He said: “When you compare it to the new changing rooms at Victory Park in Barnoldswick, it makes people think that we’re second-rate citizens in Earby.”

Coun Vera Cocker said the views of the town’s local authority had been overlooked.

“Pendle Council just did what they wanted to get it built,” she said.

But Kieron Roberts, Pendle Council’s sports and recreation officer, said Earby Parish Council was consulted at the design and construction stages.

Progress had already been made on some of the issues raised by councillors following resolutions by the West Craven Area Committee, he said.

He added: “An additional 13amp electrical power outlet and a water tap have been installed within the building, as requested.

“We’ve also made arrangements for the top right-hand corner of the football ground at Hill Top to be drained and for a gate to be installed in the perimeter fence.”
