AN investigation into a Whitworth woman’s claims she was refused service at an ASDA supermarket because she was wearing a Help for Heroes wristband has found that the exchange never happened.
The woman claimed in a national newspaper that the man behind the checkout at the store in Rochdale refused to serve her because the wristband, showing she was backing injured troops, on the basis thar it suggested she was supporting the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
However, following a two-week investigation, ASDA’s regional operations manager Paul Rowland said: “We’ve completed our investigation and it’s clear this exchange never happened.
“We’ve interviewed more than 400 colleagues in the store, examined over three days’ worth of CCTV footage and talked to other customers and we can find absolutely no evidence that a colleague said what was alleged.”
