TWO supermarket checkout workers who were slated by X Factor judges will appear on the show again this weekend.

An ITV camera crew visited Rawtenstall’s Asda at the weekend to film Rossendale duo Checkout.

Andy O’Donnell, 42, of Loveclough, and colleague John Sedgwick, 20, of Helmshore, were described as “two drunks being thrown out of a wedding” during their audition on the TV show.

But now organisers of the X Factor have created a ‘Back to Reality’ feature on the spin-off Xtra Factor show to reveal what life is like for those who did not progress in the competition.

Checkout were one of the priorities for X Factor bosses after the group’s lively performance back in August and the unique band name.

Andy said: “They wanted to set up a Peter Kay-like montage with John and I singing while we were pushing trolleys, stocking shelves and then working on the checkouts.

“Then we had to get really emotional and sad when we looked at the CD chart before an announcement came over the loudspeaker which said that Simon Cowell had got it wrong and the British public loved us.

“It was a great experience.”

The Rossendale singers will now journey to London for Sunday night’s Xtra Factor show.

Members of the public who have recognised Andy and John from the show have reassured the pair that they should have gone further in the competition.

Andy said: “People have told us we were as good as – if not better than – John and Edward.

“However, my friends have said that even if we had got to boot camp, we might not have got this much exposure, so it’s worked out really well for us.

“We are really looking forward to getting back on stage in Sunday night’s show and John is particularly excited about meeting the ‘Jedward’ performers.”
