SNOOKER legend Steve Davis helped launch a new initiative aimed at keeping young people off the streets in the Ribble Valley.
The youngsters, aged 11 to 18, will be able to play snooker for free in Whalley Village Hall, in Accrington Road, every Friday evening until Christmas.
Several partners, including Lancashire County Council, the North Lancashire Training Group and the Paul Hunter Foundation, have teamed up to launch the scheme.
Six-time world champion Davis spent the day in the village hall on Saturday playing local youngsters as well as giving coaching advice.
He said: “Snooker can be a great way of keeping young people off the streets and getting them to engage with each other.”
Chris Lovell, who represents the North Lancs Training Group and Paul Hunter Foundation, said: “Hopefully young people will support this event and it can continue beyond Christmas if so.
“The turnout for the first day was excellent and everyone was enjoying it.”
