A CANNABIS farm has been uncovered in a three-bedroomed semi-detached house on a cul-de-sac.

And police were surprised to find extraction fans fitted which they believe were to hide the smell of the drug at the house in a quiet Huncoat street.

Accrington police officers discovered the 30 plant farm in the Foxwood Chase house which is in the shadow of the Coppice, off Burnley Road, this morning.

Officers typically urge residents to be aware of tell tales signs such as smell to alert them to cannabis factories. But police said the cultivator had gone to great lengths to ensure the operation was not discovered.

Sergeant Simon Lynch, who led the raid, said: “This was more of a perfectionist job.

“There was not a large hydroponic system which we find in most cannabis farms.

“The walls were lined with reflective foil to make efficient use of the light, there were two extractor fans rigged up through a manufactured hole in the ceiling into the loft space to filter the smell.

“The window had a board over it with a blind infront to block out the cannabis farm.

“This was well thought out.

“Somebody clearly has taken a great deal of care with this one.”

Sgt Lynch said that police had launched the raid following information from the public.

He said: “It is not suprising to find it in this property but they are usually found in deprived areas.

“It shows they are an issue everywhere.

“The community find this kind of activity abhorrent and working together with the police it is another small success for the people of Huncoat.”

Accrington Inspector Dave Mangan said: “I would urge anybody with information about similar activities to pass it on to us because we will act on it.”

No arrests have yet been made over the drugs find.
