THE Lancashire Telegraph Business Awards 2009 are launched today — with firms being urged to mark their achievements by entering East Lancashire’s premier entrepreneurial celebration.

With a total of 11 awards, the event enables the area’s best businesses to showcase their successes over the last 12 months and compete for the region's most prestigious titles.

This year’s competition features the a host of categories including Business of the Year, which was won by Burnley-based aerospace manufacturer Aircelle in 2008.

But in recognition of the tough economic conditions businesses have had to deal with over the 12 months, this year’s event also includes a We’re Backing Business award.

Named after the Lancashire Telegraph campaign run in conjunction with Business Link North West, this award will recognise firms which have made special efforts to succeed during the recession.

The awards, which are being supported by the North West Development Agency, climax in a glittering ceremony to be held at Ewood Park, Blackburn, on November 20.

Lancashire Telegraph editor Kevin Young said: “This event is recognised as the most prestigious in the East Lancashire business calendar and allows us to celebrate the achievements of the area's diverse business community.

“These awards always have the highest quality entrants and this year’s event should be no different.

“With the credit crunch and the recession, it has been a challenging 12 months for businesses across East Lancashire.

“But despite these conditions, businesses in the area have continued to thrive and have more reason than ever to celebrate their achievements.”

North West Development Agency chief executive Steven Broomhead said: “Businesses in Lancashire have faced tough times recently, making these awards more significant than ever.

“The Lancashire Telegraph Business Awards recognises and celebrates the innovation, entrepreneurialism and commitment which runs throughout Lancashire.

“They reward those businesses which have worked hard for their success.”
