A HAULAGE company is looking to build on recent investments in a bid to defy the economic downturn.

Macgregor Europe, Lomeshaye Industrial Estate, Nelson, has also undergone a recent reshuffle of its management team in order to keep driving the company forward.

Over the last 12 months the firm has invested in its IT infrastructure and warehouse management system.

This means companies that Macgregor Europe is hauling stock for can keep tabs on their goods from their own offices.

New managing director, Frazer Durris, said: “These improvements mean that extremely competitive pricing is being offered.

“It was vital that we could offer this service so competitively especially during this incredibly tough trading period when customers are demanding the highest service levels.

“It has really focused us on maximising our efficiencies.”

Recent contract wins include a ‘fair trade’ smoothy and fruit drink supplier for whom Macgregor’s offer storage, stock control, picking and delivery services. And as the company looks to cope in the tough economic climate of Britain in recession, the firm has undertaken a major reshuffle.

In a bid to create new opportunities and cope with anticipated growth, former managing director Peter Macgregor has taken on a new role as chairman. This will see him meeting with key customers and clients in a bid to keep business as sustainable as possible.

Mr Durris, the company’s former sales and marketing manager, has become managing director and will oversee transport and warehouse operations.

Terri Pollard, who has been with the company for five years has also been promoted to director, while two new non executive members have been brought in.

Mr Durris added: “We have already seen the new structure significantly increase efficiency and we have had strong results for June which gives us a lot of optimism for the future.”
