A FAMILY who lost a mum and her four daughters in a blaze will appear in a crime documentary to prove her husband was the killer.

Caneze Riaz, who was a popular community worker, died along with her four daughters in the blaze at their home in Tremellen Street, Accrington, in 2006.

Although an inquest ruled that her husband Moham-med had set fire to their home before throwing himself into the flames, Caneze’s family say that persistent rumours of his innocence continue to reach them.

The blaze happened as Caneze’s son, 17-year-old Adam, was receiving treat-ment for a terminal illness. He died a few weeks later, amid claims from his family that he had lost the strength to go on.

Caneze’s brother Barry Khanan said his family had also received heavy criti-cism for the decision to send Riaz’s body to Pakistan for burial, rather than arran-ging for him to be buried with his family.

As a result the family will take part in a documentary to be aired on Sky’s Crime and Investigation channel later this year.

Barry said: “He is a murderer, and the small section of the community who continue to insist he is not, are just not aware of the facts.

“The documentary is very factual and will focus on a lot of the forensic and DNA evidence gathered at the time, which is pretty damn-ing.

“It explains how accele-rants were used and that he had a high level of alcohol in his blood and cirrhosis of the liver.

“He was not someone who drank openly, he must have been drinking in secret for some time.

“My sister and her daugh-ters didn’t suffer because they died in their sleep from the fumes, but I know he suffered because the evidence is there. He threw himself on to the flames before curling himself up into a ball in the bathroom.

“Even with all the facts that have come to light, to this day there are people who refuse to believe it can be true.

“We just want to set the record straight, the evide-nce doesn’t lie. After the fire, all the bodies were released to me and I made the decision to send his body to Pakistan, because I didn’t want him buried with the family he had killed.”

The documentary, expect-ed to air in November, will also feature Caneze’s mum June Khanan, Barry’s girlfriend Vicky Entwistle, his son Kallum, 11, and Lancashire Constabulary officers who were involved with the case.
