AN East Lancashire library is set to re-open after a £249,000 revamp.

Oswaldtwistle Library in Union Road will open on Monday with updated and modernised facilities.

The run-down library was completely transformed as part of Lancashire County Council's Library Regenerate Programme.

The programme was set up to create modern, attractive and flexible spaces to allow staff to deliver a wide range of traditional and new services..

The new look library has been designed to provide a light, spacious and open environment with a plasma screen providing information on a range of library services and community news, and there are also 12 computers with internet access for the public to use for free.

Carol Hoskin, district manager for Hyndburn for Lancashire County Library and Information Service, said: "This refurbishment has totally transformed Oswaldtwistle Library and will offer a number of benefits to local residents.

“The facilities have been greatly improved and modernised so that we can now offer a public toilet with full disabled access, more computers for public use and a flexible space to hold community events and activities.

“The new library has been designed to meet the needs of the community in Oswaldtwistle and we are looking forward to old and new library users seeing the new look and finding out how their library service has been transformed."

Automatic doors have also been fitted to make the library fully accessible, the exhibition spaces have been updated, moveable shelving to create flexible community spaces have been added and a public toilet and baby changing facility have also been included.
