A NEW drive to recruit more foster carers has been launched.
Lancashire County Council wants to increase the number of foster carers by 100 every year over the next three years.
The additional carers will ensure that foster placements are decided on a child’s identified needs, by allowing a much greater choice of placements. It will also reduce the dependence on independent fostering agencies.
Foster carer Vicky Heap, of Ightenhill, Burnley, said: “We started fostering two-and-a-half years ago and haven't looked back.
“We knew there would be challenges but the rewards can be the most wonderful feelings in the world, from small things like a hug from a child who knows they can trust you, to the feeling of achievement when you see them smiling, content and comfortable in your family and fitting in well at school.”
Lancashire County Councillor Jennifer Mein, cabnet member for children and young people, said: “We are making major investments in the Fostering Service as part of our commitment to achieve excellence by 2011.
“This campaign seeks to emphasise the very real positive benefits offered by fostering both for the foster carer and the children themselves.”
Helen Denton, executive director for children and young people for Lancashire County Council, said: “We are committed to achieving an outstanding rating for the Fostering Service.”
