A 33-year-old man collapsed and died in the shower while on holiday with his girlfriend in Brazil.
The body of Andrew Charles Waterworth has been returned to family in the Blackburn area for burial.
An inquest heard that two post-mortem examinations had been carried out on Mr Waterworth’s body.
But pathologists have been as yet unable to discover the cause of death.
The inquest heard that Mr Waterworth flew to Brazil with his partner on October 2 to stay at the Complex Hotelherio de Sauipe, Hotel Breeces.
On Wednesday October 8 he was taking a shower in his room when his partner heard a bump.
She went to investigate and found him collapsed on the floor.
The hotel doctor was called but Mr Waterworth was pronounced dead.
A post-mortem examination carried out in Brazil failed to establish a cause of death.
The examination carried out in Blackburn was also inconclusive.
The inquest was adjourned so further toxicological tests can be carried out.
A full hearing will then be heard.
Mr Waterworth is from Blackburn but was most recently living in Fordway Avenue, Blackpool.
This was because he had been working as a bar manager in the resort.
