A WOMAN managed to twice fight off a man who tried to steal her handbag before biting her on the hand.
The 26-year-old woman had been dropped off by a taxi in Tythebarn Street, Darwen, shortly after 3am yesterday when the man went up to her and tried to take her bag.
She managed to fight him off, and in the struggle he bit her on the hand before running off.
He returned minutes later and assaulted her once again, leaving her with bruises to the face as well as bite marks on her hand.He then ran off empty-handed again.
The offender was a white male, aged between 18 and 20 years old, 5ft 5in tall and of slim build.
Police said a woman of a similar age was walking down the road with him initially, but she did not have anything to do with the assaults.
Detective Inspector Steve Dowson of Blackburn CID said: “This was obviously a distressing incident for this lone female, one that las left her traumatised.
“We would appeal for any witnesses to the attacks, or anyone who has any information, to contact us.”
People can call Blackburn CID on 01254 353568.
