A MAN has been charged with attempting to rape a pensioner who was attacked in her Accrington home.
Wayne Michael Oxley, 37, of Burnley Road, Accrington, is accused of attempted rape and causing actual bodily harm to the elderly woman.
He was arrested at 3pm on Saturday and interviewed by detectives over the weekend.
Police said he was charged tonight and remanded in custody to appear before Hyndburn Magistrates tomorrow morning (Mon).
The woman was attacked in the early hours of last Tuesday after a man broke into her flat in the Woodnook area of Accrington.
Police said she tried to resist the intruder and was physically assaulted, leaving her with bruising and a bloodied nose.
After the attack the woman called her son who raised the alarm.
