A passenger in a Mercedes has been blasted for dumping rubbish onto the street.

The incident happened on Saturday night at a notorious littering hotspot on Whalley Range in Blackburn.

The car was parked in the Bastwell area, close to Whalley New Road and the passenger can be seen dumping the carrier bag of rubbish onto the street.

It is not the first time people have been caught littering on the stretch of road.

Earlier this year, a driver of a Ford Fiesta was caught littering in the same way and, on another occasion, the back seat passenger of a Range Rover dumped a cake box on the street before being driven off.

The stretch of road is also notorious for selfish, poor parking, with people stopping on the double yellow lines to head to the shops, causing tailbacks in both directions.

A resident who lives in the area said: “It happens a lot now. People think they can just throw rubbish from their cars and drive off.

"It's pure laziness.

“They should take it home with them or stop at a bin. It is not asking too much. I think people behave like they own the roads.”

In February, the council said littering would not be tolerated.

The owners of the cars caught on camera littering would face £75 fines. This would increase to £150.

Around the corner on Ash Street the car park remains one of the dirtiest in town with rubbish strewn across the ground.

The council has installed an ANPR camera at the site.
