A busy junction close to Blackburn College will be shut to all traffic.
Oakenhurst Road will be closed at the junction with Montague Street. The closure will be in place from Wednesday (May 8) and the road is due to reopen on Thursday.
The work follows a closure on Montague Street to fix a gas leak last week. It led to long delays for drivers heading down Barbara Castle Way.
Drivers are asked to avoid the section if possible. Blackburn with Darwen Roads said diversions will be in place with motorists forced to head onto King Street.
BwD Roads said: "To avoid additional disruption, the same two-way lights will be used at a slightly increased distance."
However, there was some good news for motorists this week as the temporary traffic lights on Haslingden Road were lifted.
The lights here had caused long delays for drivers in and out of Blackburn and also to Royal Blackburn Hospital.
