An interesting photo from 1990 which shows two possible solutions to Blackburn’s housing problems - neither of which were deemed a success.
The tower blocks were the flats at Queens Park and in the background you can see the co-called ‘deck-access’ flats at Shadsworth.
Both had been constructed in the late Sixties replacing rows of terraced houses which were deemed too expensive to repair. Ironically the same reason was used when the flats were demolished not long after this photo was taken.
