Smoke and flames leaping into sky on a night that clubbers across East Lancashire will never forget.
Taken on December 18, 1972, you are looking at the blaze which destroyed the Cavendish nightclub, above Blackburn’s shopping centre. The fire was thought to have started in a rubbish chute about 15 minutes after the last customer left.
Following the fire more than 20 shops in the town centre precinct were forced to close.
After the demise of the Cav, a new nightclub would arise from the ashes under several different names over the years including Peppermint Place.
