It looks like a pretty innocuous row of shops but the small door on the left hand end of the block hints at something special.
For this was the entrance to the Lucas Club on Parker Lane which occupied the floor above the shops.
A social cub for workers at the Lucas factory in the town, the club regularly hosted comedians and well known bands in the Sixties and Seventies.
We think this photo was taken around 1979 about the time when it was announced that the club was to close.
