Storm Kathleen battered parts of Lancashire at the weekend and it looks like the turbulent weather is here to stay, as a yellow weather warning has been issued.

A yellow warning for wind is in force across some areas of Lancashire on Tuesday (April 9). Rain and wind gusts of up to 52mph have been forecast in parts of the county.

Coastal areas, including Blackpool, Thornton and Fleetwood are covered by the warning. In these areas, wind gusts of up to 52mph have been forecast, peaking at around 2pm.

Blackburn with Darwen and other parts of East Lancashire are not currently covered by the warning, but rain and wind gusts of 45mph have been forecast for the area.

The warning is in force from 1am until 3pm.

The Met Office has warned people to expect “hazardous coastal conditions” which “could cause travel disruption”.

A Met Office spokesperson said: “It’s likely that some coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities will be affected by spray and/or large waves.

“Some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are likely. Some short-term loss of power and other services is possible.”
