This was what state-of-the-art facilities were like as far as working men’s clubs were concerned over 45 years ago.
This photo was taken in November 1969 to mark a total renovation of the main concert room of the Paradise WMC in Burnley.
It’s a fascinating glimpse into club culture at the time with the rows of tables complete with ash trays - this was before any smoking ban.
And just look at the number of chairs. This is only part of the room which shows how popular the clubs were.
Notices above the bar urged patrons to return to their seats after being served. And situated between the toilets is a cigarette machine and a one-armed bandit.
