A school in Blackburn has been given an award for being in the top 10 per cent of schools in the country for having the best attendance.

St Barnabas and St Paul's Church of England Primary School, on Oakenhurst Road, has been awarded for being in the top 10 per cent of schools in the country for having the best attendance in the Autumn term.

FFT are a national body that collates attendance data from more than 10,000 school nationally give 'literacy tools' for schools to work together to achieve and measure better learning.

The whole school's attendance also increased from 92.7 per cent to 95.8 per cent in the last 12 months.

A spokesperson for the school said: "This award is an acknowledgement of the hard work and dedication of staff, pupils, parents and carers in achieving excellent attendance.

"Our persistent absence rate has also dropped from 27.76 per cent last year to 9.41 per cent this year, which is a fantastic achievement for everyone at our school.

"Well done to everyone!"

The FFT awarded St Barnabas and St Paul's Church of England Primary School five stars for the 2023 to 2024 term for the National School Attendance award,.

This means they are in the top 10 per cent of similar FFT Primary Schools in England.

The spokesperson continued: "At St Barnabas and St Paul's Primary School, we know the impact regular attendance has on your child’s learning and well-being, and that having good attendance is directly linked to raising achievement and develops skills for life and work.

"We have many initiatives to celebrate and support attendance in school, and ask that parents and careers support the school in this by ensuring that your child attends school every day and on time at 8.30am.

"We ask our children to be an attendance H.E.R.O (Here Every day Ready On time) and help us achieve our school attendance target of 96 per cent."
