A man has been arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm following the closure of three roads close to Preston city centre.

Officers were called at around 9am today (February 27) to reports of a firearm discharge around the London Road area.

Police advised earlier that the A6 London Road, Cranborne Street, and Adelaide Street was closed.

Police have said nobody has been injured as a result of the firearms discharge, and it is being treated as an isolated incident with no threat to the wider public.

Officers believe a blank-firing weapon was used. It has been recovered and is being examined.

Supt Steve Rides of Preston Police, said: “We are treating this as an isolated incident and we have a man in custody.

“You will see an increased police presence in the area while we investigate the circumstances of what happened and to provide reassurance to the public.

“As part of our investigations, we are asking for anyone who has dash cam or CCTV footage from the area, to contact us.

“If you witnessed the incident, please get in touch.”
