Kaku’s 11 were crowned Blackburn’s kings of tape ball cricket following a thrilling final.

The inaugural Lancashire Cricket Foundation Blackburn tape ball league reached a conclusion at Blackburn Central High School.

The winners will now go on to represent the borough at the county finals.

The champions in that tournament which takes place this weekend in Manchester will then represent the region at the national finals at Edgbaston in Birmingham.

Kaku’s 11 were the underdogs going into the final but overcame Sattar Builders to book their place in the next round.

Lancashire Telegraph:

Farouk Hussain, who umpired the games and helped organise the event, said: “The quality of cricket was very high and all teams were extremely competitive.

“Hopefully we can build on this event and include even more teams in next year’s competition.”

Lancashire Telegraph:

Both 8-a-side teams must have seven different bowlers and a player must retire if he hits 30 runs in one innings.

The aim is to ensure that all players participate fully in the game.

First pioneered in Karachi, Pakistan, tape ball cricket has proved to be extremely popular the world over.
