Residents of Great Harwood have been left frustrated after a number of cars had their windows smashed overnight on Saturday.

Those using the Church Street car park woke up on Sunday morning (February 11) to find multiple cars damaged.

It’s not known if any items were taken from inside any of the cars, but the cost of repairs to the windows has left those affected feeling angry.

Chelsea Amber, 29, whose Renault was one of those affected, said: “All I can really say is how disappointing and frustrating the situation is.

"We see incidents like this frequently unfortunately and it’s people’s livelihoods and finances that are being affected.

“All the neighbours came together which was a real positive, helping each other out, which we’re so grateful for, but we shouldn’t have to be coming together to clean up the damage and mess that has mindlessly been made.”

Chelsea, a school teacher, is on half-term this week so will be around to get the car fixed, but had to arrange alternative transport for her partner to get to work without the car, coming at an additional expense.

A number of residents have said they believe they saw a group of youths in the area, with one neighbour saying they heard smashing and a car alarm go off at around 8.30pm on Saturday (February 10).

There are some cars in the car park which residents do not know who they belong to.

Chelsea continued: “Whoever has done it has successfully smashed through a number of car windows and then unsuccessfully got through a number of others, but leaving cracks in the windows still.

“But even with being unsuccessful in fully smashing through some, all cars they have touched need their windows replacing.”

Lancashire Police was approached for comment but was unable to provide any further information.
