Palatine Café, Great Harwood 1990
Taken in 1990, this photo shows a business which was something of an institution in Great Harwood for decades.
The Palatine Café on Glebe Street was somewhere for shoppers to take a break and it also hosted many a wedding reception in the Fifties.
Barclays, formerly Martin’s Bank was on the corner with Great Harwood Liberal Club above the café. You can see the club entrance with the white illuminated sign above the door.
The Palatine Café also featured in an episode of the TV detective drama Hetty Wainthropp Investigates from the 1990s starring Patricia Routledge.
