Leisure centres in one East Lancashire borough are opening their doors again this winter for free to pensioners to keep warm.

Throughout December, Pendle Leisure Trust will return an offer for residents aged 60 years and over, offering free swimming and exercise sessions across its three sports centres to keep warm.

The trust is encouraging elderly people to come to the centres and have a swim or go to the gym to save on their energy at home and use the centre’s energy instead, all while keeping fit and socialising with others

A variety of activities will be available seven days a week throughout December at Pendle Wavelengths in Nelson, Pendle Leisure Centre in Colne, and West Craven Sports Centre in Barnoldswick.

The trust is also encouraging seniors to use their free bus passes to get to and from the facilities, saving themselves money on fuel and also reducing traffic on the roads.

At Pendle Wavelengths, the free gym sessions are from 12pm to 3pm daily, and swim sessions are from 1.30pm to 4pm on weekdays only.

At Pendle Leisure Centre, gym sessions run from 2pm to 3pm on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, and swim sessions are on: Mondays, 4pm to 6.45pm; Thursdays, 11am to 12.45pm; and Fridays, 4pm to 7pm.

Finally at West Craven Sports Centre, gym sessions run every day from 12pm to 3pm, and swim sessions are from 4pm to 6.30pm every weekday except Thursdays.
