Ten fire engines rushed to a blaze at a commercial property in Longridge last night and are still there this morning.

The incident happened at around 10pm on Monday (November 7) at a building, believed to be at Butlers Farmhouses Cheeses, in Shay Lane, just off Preston Road.

Residents are asked to their keep windows and doors closed and avoid the area, where there are a number of schools.

Longridge High School and St Cecila's Roman Catholic High School are both closed due to the incident.

A spokesperson from Butlers Farmhouse Cheeses, "Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service has worked through the night to bring a fire at our office and packing site on Shay Lane, Longridge under control. Crews will remain on site for the next 24-48 hours and we would like to thank everyone involved for their hard work in challenging circumstances. 

"Our dairy, which is a separate site in Inglewhite, was not impacted and continues to turn milk into cheese today. Our priority is supporting and looking after all of our team - our extended family - and we have been touched by the support from our local community and our customers."

Lancashire Telegraph: A spokesperson for Lancashire Fire and Rescue service said: "We have 10 fire engines at a commercial property on Shay Lane, Longridge.

"Firefighters were called just before 10pm this evening and local residents are encouraged to keep windows and doors shut if they can smell or see smoke.

"We remain at this incident and crews will likely be in attendance through the night.

"Please continue to avoid the area and keep windows closed if you are affected by smoke."

At 2.40am on Tuesday, November 7, Group Manager for Lancashire Fire & Rescue service Emma Price said: "We are currently in attendance at a commercial building fire in the Longrdige area and have more than 10 fire engines and special appliances in attendance.

"We are bringing the fire under control and expect to have crews on the scene into tomorrow.

"We ask for people in the area to keep their doors and windows shut and to stay clear of the scene for that time. Thank you"
