The fire service has been thanked, after rescuing a cat from a canal in Brierfield at the weekend.

Firefighters from Nelson and Burnley rescued Ed the cat from the canal, using a 10.5 metre ladder.

Ed and his owner got in touch and thanked the fire service for helping to rescue him.

A picture also surfaced of the firefighters petting the Ed, who is with his owner.

A spokesperson for the fire service said: “Over the weekend, our crews in Nelson and Burnley rescued Ed the cat from a canal in Brierfield using a 10.5m ladder.

“Ed and his owner got in contact to say a huge thank you for doing a ‘purrfect job’ in rescuing him and Ed really loved the affection.”
