Five fire engines rushed to battle a vehicle fire last night.

At around 9.15pm last night (October 16), five fire engines from Fulwood, Preston, Bamber Bridge and Penwortham were called to a fire involving a van on the M6 motorway.

The incident was located just after junction 31 on the southbound carriageway of the M6 and three of the four lanes were closed as a result.

There were delays of at least 30 minutes with two miles of congestion on approach.

Crews used two jets and tools to extinguish the blaze and were at the scene for just over an hour. Luckily, no one was injured in the fire.

The scene was cleared and all lanes r-opened at around 11.30pm.

 

A spokesperson for the fire service said: “Five fire engines from Fulwood, Preston, Bamber Bridge and Penwortham were called to a fire involving a van on the M6 motorway just after junction 31 on the southbound carriageway.

“Firefighters used two jets and tools to extinguish the fire and they were at the scene for just over an hour. No injuries were reported.”
