A man has been charged with arson and wounding with intent following a house fire in which two people were taken to hospital.

Jack Lain, 36, of Woodcrest, Blackburn, was also in breach of bail conditions when he was arrested, and was due to appear before magistrates this morning (September 27). 

Two people were taken to hospital following the fire, which took place at a house in Wilpshire at around 6.50pm on Monday (September 26).

Four fire engines from Blackburn and Hyndburn attended the domestic property, in Woodcrest, with crews using one jet, two hose reels, and sending four firefighters in breathing apparatus into the property.

Once the fire was extinguished, ventilation was used to rid the house of smoke.

It is not known whether the people taken to hospital have been seriously injured.

A spokesperson for the fire service said: "On September 25 at 6.52pm, four fire engines from Blackburn and Hyndburn attended a domestic property fire on Woodcrest in Wilpshire.

"Firefighters used one jet, two hose reels, four breathing apparatus and positive pressure ventilation to extinguish the fire.

"Two people were taken to hospital by North West Ambulance Service.

"Crews were in attendance for over three hours."

A spokesperson for Lancashire Police said: "Jack Lain, 36, of Woodcrest, Blackburn, was charged with arson with intent to endanger life, GBH with intent, and breach of bail conditions.

"He was remanded into custody to appear before Blackburn magistrates this morning."
