Go Ape is ready and set to open its new location to the public this Sunday (July 16) in Witton Park, Blackburn.

Go Ape Blackburn will be the adventure company’s 36th location and the first standalone experience for adventurers under the age of 10 years old as the Blackburn site includes two new high-ropes activities which are perfect for younger explorers.

Treetop Adventure is the ideal first step up into the forest canopy for children over 1m tall, so that they can get a feel for heights.

They can test their skills and balance on a circuit of wobbly crossings and obstacles before speeding back to the ground on a zipline.

Treetop Adventure Plus is an extension of the Treetop Adventure course, with an additional loop filled with even trickier crossings and an extra-long solo zip line for participants aged six years and older and at least 1.2m (4ft 11ins) tall.

Go Ape Blackburn site manager, Alex Brown, said: “Go Ape Blackburn has been designed to test and encourage thrill-seekers so they can get comfortable with heights.

"There’s even an extra low-loop about one metre off the ground, which will let younger ones get comfortable with obstacles before they go higher.

“Witton Park itself is a lovely big Country Park. It's got lots of good amenities and local bits around it: a great cafe, a massive woodland and it's right on the periphery of Blackburn so is very accessible by public transport.

“It’s less than 30 minutes away from Preston and an hour from the Lake District so will be a great activity for day trips or staycations.

“I think the local area will really benefit from another Go Ape site to help it develop, as well as encourage the local community to get active outdoors.”

Witton Park will be the second Go Ape location to be built in Lancashire.

Go Ape Rivington, near Bolton, lies just 13 miles away and offers Treetop Challenge, an even more extreme high-ropes adventure course for thrill-seekers over 10 years old and 1.4m (5ft 7ins) tall.

Over the last 21 years, Go Ape has aimed to help people live more adventurously through activities like high ropes experience, forest segways excursions or axe throwing adventures.
