The bad weather is still not over yet as the Met Office issues a further weather warning for rain in the coming days.
The weather warning covers the whole of East Lancashire and is in place from Thursday (March 16) at midnight until 3pm.
The weather service says spray and flooding on roads from the rainfall will probably make journey times longer and the persistent rain, which will be particularly heavy over southwest facing hills, is likely to cause some difficult travel conditions.
On Thursday, heavy showers are forecast in Blackburn with Darwen between 6am and 12pm, with lighter showers later in the day and similar weather conditions are forecast in other East Lancashire towns.
Temperatures are set to remain between 9°C and 12°C feeling like colder at times with high wind speeds of up to 33 miles per hour.
Forecast for Blackburn with Darwen from Thursday:
- Thursday, March 16: Yellow weather warning for rain. Heavy rain showers expected between 6am and 12pm. Highs of 12°C and lows of 9°C.
- Friday, March 17: Cloudy changing to sunny intervals with light showers by 3pm. Highs of 13°C and lows of 8°C.
- Saturday, March 18: Light rain changing to sunny intervals with light showers by 3pm. Highs of 9°C and lows of 7°C.
- Sunday, March 19: Overcast and cloudy with rain expected at 3pm. Highs of 9°C and lows of 5°C.
Met Office chief forecaster Dan Suri said: “As we head through the second half of the week, conditions turn milder, wetter and windier from the west.
“This change to milder conditions will be preceded by some snow over parts of northern England and Scotland later on Wednesday, mainly over higher ground.”
