Train enthusiasts celebrated as the Flying Scotsman made its journey through the picturesque Lancashire countryside this weekend.
This record-breaking engine is celebrating 100 years since entering service, and as part of the festivities is travelling around the country, including to the Irwell Valley.
The 2999 “Lady of Legend” was also running alongside the Flying Scotsman much to the delight of train fans.
Colin Cywinski shared these images of the steam trains during his journey from Bury to Rawtenstall on Sunday.
He said: “It was wonderful to be on the historic train. I have seen the train a few times and there were plenty of people watching.”
The Flying Scotsman is considered by many to be the most famous locomotive in the world. The iconic locomotive was built in 1923 and was designed by Sir Nigel Gresley.
It was built at Doncaster Works and cost £7,944 to make at the time.
It was officially the first locomotive to reach 100mph and also the first to travel around the world.
James Daly MP for Bury North also told of his delight as as the Flying Scotsman came to Bury.
He said: "Mrs Daly and I joined the East Lancashire Railway as the Flying Scotsman came to Bury, marking 100 years of service this year.
"The East Lancashire Railway is an incredibly special part of our town and events like this bring thousands of tourists to our area each year."
