Two lanes on the M6 southbound carriageway have been closed after a crash.

The crash took place at around 5.30pm this evening (January 10) and traffic has been held on M6 southbound between junction 31 and junction 29.

The hard shoulder and lanes one and two are currently closed. There are currently delays of one and a half hours against expected traffic.

Traffic Delays website states that normal traffic conditions are expected between 7pm and 7.15 pm.

The Met Office issued a yellow weather warning for heavy rain for Lancashire which is in place until 8pm tonight. Up to 80mm of rain could fall in some areas so risk of flooding to homes, businesses and roads is ‘likely’.

A spokesperson for National Highways North West said: "Take care if you're on the road today, it's wet out there and driving conditions could be tricky."

Traffic updates website, INRIX, states: “Queueing traffic and two lanes closed due to crash on M6 Southbound from J31 A59 Preston New Road (Samlesbury) to J30 M61.

“Severe delays of 47 minutes and delays increasing on M6 Southbound between J32 M55 (Broughton Interchange) and J30 M61. Average speed five mph.”
