The managing director of a Michelin star restaurant in East Lancashire has said he is "truly honoured" after being given an award recognising his career in hospitality.

Craig Bancroft, managing director of Northcote, in Langho, has been given an outstanding contribution award at the Hotel Cateys 2022 awards.

Since his arrival at Northcote in 1983, Craig has helped the Northcote Road restaurant to secure four AA rosettes and a Michelin star for its restaurant.

Known for his warmth and expertise in all things food and wine, Craig has received many accolades over the years, including being named The Caterer's Hotelier of the Year in 2016 and receiving the Wine and Spirit Ambassador Award at the 2017 Cateys.

The restaurant’s annual food festival, Obsession, sees guest chefs travel from around the world come to the venue to cook up a storm.

Through this event, Craig has helped raise nearly £400,000 for Hospitality Action.

On receiving the award, Craig said: "I'm very surprised to receive this award - and I'm never surprised so I really was taken aback, I had no idea!

"I'm truly honoured, especially as my son and so many friends and colleagues are here with me.

“A big thank you goes to all of the team at Northcote, because without them I wouldn't have been able to achieve the things I have, so this award is dedicated to them."

Craig has also been named Confrade Honorário with the rank of Cavaleiro, by Confraria do Vinho do Porto.

This is is the rank given to those recognized for their passion, dedication and service to port wine.

Craig attended the enthronement ceremony at The Great Chamber, Charterhouse, in London on Tuesday, November 29, and received his Insignias, as well as signing the Book of Honour.
