CAMPAIGNERS in Rossendale are launching a determined fight to save the world - one step at a time.

Eco warriors across the borough are set to benefit from a Lancashire County Council fund designed to back climate change initiatives.

The Rossendale Climate Change Group has been awarded £3,225 for a range of work in the area.

Workers will visit the homes of local people with smart electricity meters to show them how much electricity they are using to promote energy saving. The group will also advise other local organisations on action to combat climate change.

Rossendale Civic Trust receives £3,795 to replace an outdated boiler at its headquarters at The Weavers' Cottage, in Rawtenstall. Work will also be carried out to improve doors and windows to prevent heat loss. Meanwhile, officials at St Peter's Community Centre, Haslingden, received £3,160 to insulate the roof space.

Construction work will also be carried out to make the building less draughty and maximise energy-saving.
