A PENDLE picnic site is in the running for a top title at this year's Warburtons Picnic Awards.

Pendle people are being urged to vote the Barley picnic site, near Pendle Hill, as the UK's favourite picnic spot.

The site will battle against nine others in the region heat for the right to be called the North West's best picnic spot, netting the regional winners £500 for the maintenance of the site.

The winner of the regional heat will go on to compete against other regional winners from across the UK for £1,000 prize money and a plaque.

Mike Williams, Pendle's tourism officer, said: "I urge everyone to vote for Barley picnic site and show the country that Pendle really is the best place to picnic.

"Barley is not only the starting point of many walks, including the walk up Pendle Hill and the Witches Walk, but a village of great charm with some lovely eateries and pubs."

Everyone who votes is automatically entered into a prize draw to win a family picnic in Central Park, New York.
