A MAN who assaulted a policewoman who turned up to a domestic row was fined £100 by Burnley magistrates.

The court was told how Matthew Anthony Stockburn banged the officer's hand against a door frame as he was being handcuffed. She suffered cuts, scratches and swelling.

Stockburn, of St Cuthbert Street, Burnley, admitted police assault.

He must also pay £50 compensation, £60 costs and a £15 victim surcharge.

Sue Campbell, prosecuting, told the court at about 2am on March 7, police were called to a domestic dispute on Kyan Street, Burnley.

The defendant was upstairs and officers shouted up they wanted to speak to him.

Stockburn was aggressive and abusive and PC Joanna Robson applied the handcuffs to his right wrist.

Mrs Campbell said the defendant started banging the handcuffs, and the officer's hand, against a frame.

He was eventually gassed and was restrained by police after a struggle.
