Andrew Thompson, 21, of no fixed address, has been charged with arson and damage in connection with a fire in Railway Street, Nelson.
Police and the fire and rescue service were called out to the blaze at about 3.55pm on Monday.
The fire caused severe damage to a bedroom, lounge and hallway.
The rest of the the house suffering smoke and heat damage.
