VEHICLES were being monitered throughout Blackburn centre this week to measure the amount of traffic passing through the borough.
The Annual Traffic Monitering Survey was done by Blackburn with Darwen Council in conjunction with CTS Traffic and Transport Ltd, based in Preston, which specialises in collecting road traffic data.
The data was collected at seven different sites over a 12 hour period.
As well as vehicles, the number of cyclists were counted as part of a target which aims to have 22 per cent of road users cycling within the next five years.
There was a similar survey in Darwen.
Information gathered will be used to draw up the borough's local transport plan, which will shape transport policy in years to come.
