A PENSIONER from Darwen reversed into another car after struggling to exit a car park.

Blackburn magistrates heard that Robert Bibby became abusive towards the other driver and adopted the same attitude towards a police officer called to the dispute.

And the pensioner was later found to be more than double the drink-drive limit.

Bibby, 72, of Rosehill Street, admitted driving with excess alcohol and was banned for 20 months, fined £200 and ordered to pay £75 costs.

Catherine Allan, prosecuting, said the incident occurred at 2.44pm on the open car park above Debenhams, in Blackburn town centre.

Police were told that a car had collided with another at the exit barrier. Bibby was shouting obscenities at the other driver and was also abusive to the police.

Jonathan Taylor, defending, said his client was deeply ashamed and realised he should have shown more restraint.

He said Bibby had not intended to drive home on the day of the incident but his wife had suffered a panic attack and wanted to go home.

"He no longer wants to drive and has put his car up for sale," said Mr Taylor. "When his ban is over, he will not be applying for his licence back."
