Quite a number of people may not be fans of the monarchy but why do we still hold a special place for the Queen?

We have had the familiar tributes shared by people across the world on almost every medium possible.

Then there are an equal number who will admit they don’t actually care what happens.

A fair few were more concerned about whether they would get a day off work during the mourning period.

Someone has died and someone else lost a family member and that is where our grief should be focused.

But what if you are not really a big fan of the monarchy and what it stands for?

Over the years, the Royal Family got it wrong and they will continue to do so in the future. You can care little about the Royals and still be completely patriotic.

Following the announcement that the Queen had died there were of course those who were keen to stress the history of the Empire and all it stood for.

Essentially, the Royal Family in the last half century was a representation of that ‘post-economic empire’ but had very little to do with the decisions being made in their name.

It was the governments, politicians and multi-nationals who worked to secure lands and take part in the subjugation of people across the world.

The modern Royal Family were left to explain the decisions of their ancestors. Could they have done more. Almost certainly.

To ignore this glaring fact it does not mean one is being crass or insensitive. It is being completely honest about history and it goes for the Royals in other countries too.

What does matter is that the Queen was in many ways the embodiment of duty and leadership of the likes we are unlikely to see again.

While all those around her like I mentioned earlier got it wrong she managed to get it right.

Barring a few occasions even she found it difficult to do the human thing, on the whole she was very much someone who did make the right decision.

The Queen helped to unite a nation in times of needs and also made a genuine effort to reach out to people of all faiths and communities.

No matter where you were in life and how bad things got in Britain at least we had Queen Elizabeth on our side.

It was in many ways the type of leadership and comfort that comes with experience. So whatever your feelings she was still and always will be ‘Our Queen’.
