CHILDREN at a Langho primary school have been honing their creative skills with expert guidance.

St Mary's Primary School, Whalley Road, welcomed a poet, visual artist and storyteller for several days as part of a project supported by Creative Partnerships, the Government's creative learning programme.

Storyteller Jackie Harris did sessions with pupils in Years 3, 4 and 5, poet Norm Warwick spent four days in helping youngsters write their own poetry, and visual artist Vanessa Carol showed them how to create a story and the puppets and props to re-tell it.

Parents were invited to a special celebration assembly and the children performed their stories and poetry around the theme of creation stories from around the world.

Assistant headteacher Danielle Ellison said: "The children have thoroughly enjoyed the sessions which as part of our creative curriculum were contributing to further developing speaking and listening skills and creative writing."
