A DRUNKEN mother-of-two who assaulted a doorman and kicked a police officer was given a 12-month conditional discharge.

Burnley magistrates heard how Maxine Barber, 24, struck one blow to each and did not cause any permanent injuries.

Barber, a single parent and part-time Lancashire County Council catering assistant, admitted assaulting Alistair Firth by beating at Colne on February 3, and also assaulting a Special Constable.

Barber, of Cleveland Street, Colne, must also pay £150 compensation and £50 costs.

Carl Gaffney, prosecuting, said Barber had no previous convictions and would probably have been given a conditional caution, but for the police assault.

At about 2am, the defendant, who was "almost catatonic", lashed out at the doorman. He recalled being struck in the face by the swing of an arm.

The Special Constable went to arrest Barber and she lunged out with her foot and caught her on the leg.

Bill Berry, defending, said Barber had now lost her good character and was ashamed of her behaviour.
