A COMMUNITY skip has once again been sited at Duke Bar, Burnley.

The skip, on Heasantford car park, off Colne Road, had not been available in recent months.

But after feedback from council-run events, Burnley Council decided to reinstate the free service.

It is funded from the RESPECT agenda, money given from the government to help promote respect and tackle anti-social behaviour, littering, fly tipping and drugs crime.

It is hoped that the money will allow the skip to be available for use at several wards across the borough each month.

It will be open to residents of different neighbourhoods in as many as eight different locations a month.

Councillor Margaret Lishman, executive member for environment said: "When this service was unavailable, its loss was felt by many residents across the borough.

I am delighted that we can provide this valuable service once again thanks to the RESPECT agenda.

"Residents borough wide will benefit by using the skip to deposit items that they would otherwise have incurred a charge to have collected.

"This is a great example of the council listening to the needs of its residents, and working to meet them in the best way possible, and I hope that residents will use and get the most out of this service."
