Blackburn is set to have its first official Pride event this summer.
The festival will take place in June a month chosen to celebrates LGBTQ+ communities.
Councillor Jim Shorrock who has been appointed Chair of Blackburn Pride said: “A date for your diary. Blackburn's first Official Pride Event to be held on Saturday 18th June.
“I'm really taken aback by the amazing response from so many people and organisations to the announcement of the 1st Official Blackburn Pride 2022. Thanks everyone.”
Further details for the festival have yet to be announced. Cllr Shorrock was inundated with messages of support from across the region.
He posted: “As I reflect on a weekend of constant replying to tweets in response to #BlackburnPride2022 I am very humbled at the support I have received.
“On behalf of the Blackburn Pride Committee, thank you very much for your ideas, offers of involvement and commitment! Keep safe.” Pride events include parades, marches, community days, dance parties, and festivals. Unofficial events in Blackburn have been held in the past.
