ARACHNOPHOBES should stay away from Colne this Halloween as there has been a ‘monster invasion’.
A giant spider has emerged from the Colne tunnels and taken over the headquarters of a local business.
The spider’s black and wiry legs can be seen poking out of the Albert Road building with a red eye poking out the top window
Of course, it isn’t a real spider and is part of an elaborate Halloween display that has been created by XLCR Vehicle Management Limited.
Ben Metcalfe, business director of the company, said the company decided to re-create the display after it proved to be popular last Halloween.
Ben explained: “We thought it would be nice to bring it back and we had a few requests to bring it back from parents whose kids enjoyed it.
“People love it. Every time I go on social media someone else who I know has got a picture of it saying how cool it looks.”
Mr Metcalfe explained that the display gets even better at night when the giant eye will light up and pulsate in different colours.
Last year, the company worked with East Lancashire councillors to work on the ‘Spider Monster Takeover’ project.
As well as the giant spider display on the building, they also “trapped” a giant spider in a glass box and displayed it outside the town’s market.
The campaign stated that the spiders emerged from the Colne tunnels and were taking over the town.
While the glass box display isn’t making another appearance this year, the building display is here to stay.
Ben said: “It will probably be back year-on-year and we will try and add to it every year and make it that little bit better.
“We thought it would be nice to bring it back and we had a few requests to bring it back from parents whose kids enjoyed it.”
After posting a picture of their building display to social media, it was flooded with comments.
One person wrote: “Brilliant! Glad it’s back”.
Jane Fisher said: “Saw it yesterday, mind boggling.”
Another commented: “My little boy thinks this is amazing! So do I actually.”
