Plans for a controversial supermarket in Great Harwood are to be voted on this afternoon by Hyndburn planning committee.

Proposals for a Tesco store on Queen Street have worried shopkeepers who fear it will take away their trade.

Plans for the store have been scaled down and the retailer is now asking for permission to build a 4,900sq m single-storey supermarket with a coffee shop and 349 parking spaces.

The site is occupied by the Metflex factory, which would be demolished.

More than 600 residents have signed a petition against the plans and the council has received over 400 letters of objection.

But council officers officers have put the plans forward for approval.
