A POP-UP fish and chip shop has opened at a pub in Altham.

The new take-away is operating from the Walton pub while they have to remain closed due to Covid-19 restrictions.

The food pub, which is operated by Duffy's Pub Company, had to close for the November lockdown and hasn't been able to re-open since.

Managing Director Marc Duffy said: "We couldn't keep sitting with the door closed - we had to open and do something.

"It was not only to get us back doing something but we need that cash flow to come in again."

The Walton, which Marc has ran for nearly five years, is the only pub in Altham and is located on the main road through the village.

Marc said that opening as a take-away has been a 'god-send' and that it has allowed them to bring some members of staff back to help operate the take-away.

Marc continued: "We have managed to bring back a couple of members of staff for the take-away.

"With it only being a take-away we only need two people on while the rest of the staff are still furloughed."

In Lancashire, wet-led pubs have been closed since mid-October, when tier three restrictions were brought in which, at the time, allowed food pubs to remain open if operating as a restaurant.

Food pubs were then closed at the start of November as the country was put into a second national lockdown and the high level of restrictions which were imposed on the county have meant that hospitality has had to remain closed since, only being able to operate as a take-away style service.

You can order by calling the pub on 01282 774444 to place your order. Take-aways are available Monday to Friday from 11am until 2.30pm and in the early evening from 4:30pm until 7:30pm.
